ABOUT THE WIZARDS CHEST
You have might have heard tell of The Wizard's Chest. If so, you know that it is a great place to get a Halloween costume - and you would be correct. What you might not know, however, is all sorts of the wonderful delights held inside The Wizard's Chest. This one-of-its-kind, family-owned store contains magical treasures for everyone!
Originally opened in 1983, The Wizard's Chest drew inspiration from the fantastic world of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth. Starting in just 850 square feet, the store would grow to become much more than just a local toy store. It grew to become an 8.000 square foot magical castle in the heart of Denver. In 2015, it doubled in size and now The Castle is an 16,000 square feet whimsical, colorful escape from the drab bleakness of daily shopping drudgery. Through the main gates, visitors are met by a metal wizard as they traverse the main entrance. Inside, by the professional magical counter, they are greeted by the wizard, Winchester Slatebeard. Clothed in his antique purple velvet and wielding a crystal ball tipped staff, Winchester has been helping to mind the store since the beginning.
Inside the entrance is the beginning of a magical experience at The Castle. Squeeze a stuffed animal, witness our in-house magicians astound with their tricks, or try your hand at juggling or spinning a diabolo. Here is where you'll find that perfect quirky gift for the nerd culture aficionado in your life (and maybe even a cool something for yourself).
The rear of the upper environs of the castle is devoted to our costume, make-up and accessory departments. There are hundreds of complete costumes for customers for sale, as well as hats, wigs and masks to help complete your look. The Wizard's Chest also boasts a complete theatrical make-up counter, with high quality, professional-grade products, and a knowledgeable staff to answer your questions. Dress-up and creative play is a wonderful part of being a kid. At The Wizard's Chest, knights, princesses, astronauts, and superheroes are always in good supply to help a world of make-believe come to life.
The lower realms of The Castle is where you will find all types of wonders! A hands-on play environment is encouraged throughout the whole store, and it is a rare day if you do not find someone learning a new game with a staff member. Wind-up toys rattle across table tops, a young engineer buys their first solar robot kit, and a group of friends conquer an army of orcs in the corner. Just another beautiful day at The Wizard's Chest! Demo games are available for perusal, as well as books, chess, jigsaw puzzles, outdoor activities, toddler toys and science kits.
Because community is important to us, and because we love to make new friends, The Wizard's Chest hosts a number of open play events and clubs. You'll find weekly groups for Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, miniature games and role-playing games here at the shop. Regular pre-release events and other tournaments are held for die-hard players as well. In the summer, we also host a club for juggling, yo-yos and other skill toys, where you can hone your skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Over the decades, The Wizard’s Chest and its customers have grown up together and new generations of parents have spread the joy of “stopping by The Chest” to their children. For over thirty years, the store has been graced with laughter and joy. The success of The Wizard’s Chest is the result of willingness of the owners, management and staff to constantly strive to provide the best service and products for our customers…sprinkled with just a bit of fairy dust!
